Missouri Congressman Burlison wants Trump to prioritize release of Epstein files

Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison is not letting up on his fight for the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The U.S. Justice Department says Epstein killed himself in jail and that he did not keep a client list in his sex trafficking of underage girls.

“Yeah, I think that the American people are sick and tired of being lied to by their government or being the government holding these secrets that they deserve to know the truth on. This topic was part of the campaign last year,” Burlison told Missourinet.

Trump ran on a campaign promise in 2024 to declassify the Epstein files.

Epstein was found dead in 2019 in his New York jail cell. He led an international sex trafficking operation, reportedly with several high-profile customers, including politicians.

“I’m not gonna like, just turn around my perspective on this,” said Burlison. “At the end of the day, like there’s hundreds and hundreds of young women who are victimized and they deserve justice, and they deserve the truth to come out. And so it to me, that’s a moral imperative.”

Burlison said the American people are not stupid and the president should prioritize the release of these files.

“He has got so much going on, I get it. Like he’s trying to resolve conflicts around the world. He’s dealing with tariffs. He’s dealing with the tax policies from the one big, beautiful bill. In some aspects, they feel like this topic is a strain or distracts them and I get it. I also understand that it’s a priority to the American people,” said Burlison.

Former Trump ally Elon Musk has accused the president of being connected to Epstein and says Trump is the reason why the Epstein files have not been released.

Burlison, a Republican from southwest Missouri’s Springfield aera, does not think Musk’s allegations are true.

“When Biden was president, they did everything – they did judicial gymnastics to try to get Trump in jail or prosecute any way they could. If they had information about him connected to Jeffrey Epstein, they would have absolutely released that,” he said.

Trump is now saying the talk of Epstein having a client list of high-profile people and someone killing Epstein is a Democratic hoax.

“If Trump is right, that these files are kind of like Russia collusion files, then that’s fine. Show us those files and show us the evidence that the Democrats contrived this and put it together. Let the American people judge,” said Burlison.

Since Burlison is not buying what the DOJ is saying, does he want an investigation?

“I do,” said Burlison. “Yeah, I think that if this is gonna happen, I think, it I would support, like a special counsel or some kind of investigation.”

The DOJ’s withholding of the files has caused some friction among Trump and his MAGA supporters, but Burlison thinks Trump’s base will still support the president – they just want the files released.
