SMSgt. James Lee Murray III
LORIS-SMSgt. James Lee Murray III, 86, passed away May 17 at his home in Loris. Born Feb. 21, 1939 in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late James Lee Murray Jr. and the late Dorothy May Harrington Rice.
Mr. Murray served his country with dignity, honor and courage in the U.S. Navy for four years and the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. Some of the awards earned during his military service include the Combat Crew Member Badge, Senior Aircrew Member Wings, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, Vietnam Air Offense, Meritorious Service Medal and Oak leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and two Bronze Stars, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and Bronze Star, 14 Air Medals, two Silver Stars and three Oak Leaf Clusters, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal
Survivors include his loving wife, Candace Murray; son, James Lee Murray IIII; daughters, Dawn Marie Murray and Kari Dillon (Tony); grandchildren, Kevin Moore (Angie), David Moore Jr. and Kandace Moore; and great-grandchildren, Dominic Moore, Tristan Moore, Kaylei Moore, Paislee Moore, Kareese Williams and Kamari Rigsbee.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Murray was predeceased by his son, Dean Robert Murray; and one brother.
