BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Another sure sign of spring – many Vermont hiking trails are open for the summer on Friday.
The Green Mountain Club manages and maintains 500 miles of Vermont trails, including the Long Trail.
They say with the wet weather we’ve been having, keep mud-season conditions in mind when picking your Memorial Day hike.
They say to be prepared for cold, rainy, or even snowy conditions by wearing layers. Remember, turning back may be the best option.
If you’re looking for advice on what trail to hit or learn more about the organization, GMC is also boasting a new visitor center in Waterbury this year.
The Green Mountain National Forest is also opening for the season on Friday. The forest is open for camping, hiking, fishing, and much more.
The Forest Service has updated information about trail and road conditions as well as some tips for the best places to visit.
