Royal Challengers Bangalore have been unusual consistent this year and have successfully qualified for the play-offs. But they will be facing a crucial challenge in the form of the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad tonight.
It is a fact that Bengaluru have already qualified for the play-offs, and there is not too much to bother on that front. But the point of concern here is that Bengaluru will need to win this game against Hyderabad if they are to consolidate a top two position finish on the points table.
Defeat for Bengaluru tonight, will mean that they will remain on 16 points which is on level with Mumbai Indians. And then if Mumbai wins the game against Punjab, then they will go to the second position, dropping Bengaluru to 3rd.
The advantage that comes with the top two positions is that these teams can have one additional chance at the final match and this is what RCB will be praying for. For that to happen, they will have to beat Hyderabad comprehensively tonight.
If Hyderabad can script a strong performance and win the game against Bengaluru, then they can certainly spoil the party for the Virat Kohli side. While Hyderabad can’t stop Bengaluru from progressing to the play-offs, they can certainly spoil the party by rejecting them at top two position finish.
