COLFAX TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Indiana woman died in a crash near Big Rapids where two people were thrown from a vehicle driven by a 14-year-old, deputies said.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. Thursday on 140th Avenue near 13 Mile Road in Colfax Township, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

The 14-year-old driver was headed south on 140th Avenue when he lost control and the vehicle turned over. Two passengers were thrown from the vehicle.

An 18-year-old woman from Fort Wayne, Indiana, died at the scene, according to deputies. Her name was not released.

A 19-year-old passenger from Big Rapids was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The driver had minor injuries and was also hospitalized, deputies said.

It’s not clear what caused the crash.
