Central government approves two year extension for Agnipath recruits with new absorption plans

Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani revealed a significant decision by the central government to extend the Agnipath scheme by two years. Within the new framework, 25 per cent of Agniveers who complete their initial four-year term will be absorbed as regular soldiers, while the remaining 75 per cent will get a subsequent two-year engagement. After completing six years, willing personnel can join the armed forces based on objective selection rules. The announcement led to political debates, with some criticism and support, while defence veterans analysed the advantages of the extension including advanced training and recruitment solutions.
