The NFL on Saturday announced it fined Las Vegas Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn for a hit on Garrett Wilson, one that left the New York Jets wide receiver with a concussion.
Chinn sealed the 38-33 win for the Raiders at MetLife Stadium with an interception in the end zone, but was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the previous play. Helmet-to-helmet contact in tackling Wilson on a 15-yard completion gave the Jets tacked on an extra 15 yards to the Raiders’ 35-yard line with 14 seconds left.
The NFL deemed it a hit on a defenseless player and fined Chinn $17,911.
Wilson, the Jets’ top receiver, entered concussion protocol and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs after not having practiced this week.
“I was a little disappointed because, to be real, with that penalty,” Chinn told the Review-Journal on Wednesday. “I didn’t know how I could play it any differently trying to make a play on the ball. So that was unfortunate.”
