The National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported today that its “2030 Initiative” Committee for Gas Flaring Reduction held meetings last Wednesday and Thursday (4 and 5 November) with representatives from SLB (formerly Schlumberger).
The sessions were attended by SLB’s Director of Operations for Libya and North Africa, the chair and members of the NOC’s 2030 Initiative Committee, and a technical team from the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO)—representing its operations and engineering departments.
The discussions focused on the outcomes of the first phase of an engineering study for a gas system project at the Messla and Sarir oil fields, operated by AGOCO. The project aims to capture and utilize approximately 34 million cubic feet of gas per day, which is currently being flared.
The meetings included a review and discussion of the study prepared by SLB, with an agreement to proceed to the second phase. This phase will involve completing a detailed technical study by the first quarter of 2027, paving the way for a comprehensive, implementation-ready project plan.
This initiative, the NOC stated, aligns with the focus and oversight of its Chairman regarding efforts to reduce gas flaring, maximize the utilization of national resources, and transform associated gas into a source of economic value and energy—thereby delivering sustainable economic and environmental benefits.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the NOC and SLB, leveraging the latter’s expertise and technical and engineering capabilities to support the goals of the 2030 Initiative, reduce gas flaring, and ensure the optimal utilization of gas resources.
