The institution’s director, Eddy Alcántara, explained that closures occur after a review of irregularities identified during inspections, as well as evaluations carried out by the Executive Directorate and specialized technicians in different areas.
The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor) closed eight Chinese establishments after technicians and inspectors found a series of irregularities.
Among the closed businesses are the Home Plus and AMG Mall stores, Plaza Neza, Tienda Rojo Star, Tienda Nuevo Mundo, Import y Export, Sol, Playa y Arena, among others.
The businesses are located in the municipal district of Pantoja, Los Alcarrizos, and in other areas of Greater Santo Domingo.
Pro Consumidor director Eddy Alcántara explained that the entity ordered the temporary closure through resolutions 1934-26 and 1935-26.
He said the irregularities detected included the sale of products without the corresponding health registrations.
It also noted the display of adult items with special characteristics in spaces where minors could see them, which could violate the provisions of the Code for the System of Protection and Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents.
The official explained that the closures follow a review of irregularities identified during inspections, as well as evaluations carried out by the Executive Directorate and specialized technicians in different areas.
Alcántara recalled that the institution recently intervened in several Chinese commercial establishments and that, once the evaluations were completed, it would adopt the necessary administrative measures in cases where non-compliance with the regulations was verified.
The resolutions also stipulate that the closures will remain in place until the Attorney General’s Office concludes the investigation, which the institution will appoint.
The head of Pro Consumidor reiterated that the institution will continue to enforce the provisions that protect consumers, especially against commercial practices that may threaten their safety, health, and rights.
