Worcester County Health Department offers new no-cost skin cancer screenings

SNOW HILL, Md. – The Worcester County Health Department is offering a new skin cancer screening program, free of cost.

The new program looks to promote early detection, increase awareness, and support community health.

Kelly Shockley, RN, is the supervisor of the skin cancer screening program, and explained the options for the programs patients.

“Whether it’s just for a routine full body skin check or if they’re noticing concerns, abnormal moles or dark skin lesions.” Said Shockley. “They’ll be able to get linked in with the dermatologists and get screening and hopefully any type of lesion will be removed.”

Eligible Worcester residents must be 18 years or older, with little to no health insurance coverage regarding skin screenings.

“It’s better to to get it checked.” Said Shockley. “Obviously if you get it checked in the early stages it can be removed. It can be treated.”

In a county with many outdoor activities, the health department still encourages residents to practice sun safety.
