Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 has opened to strong collections at the box office, but it has failed to beat the opening-day record of Prabhas’ Adipurush.
Released worldwide on Thursday, November 5, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer collected Rs 64.85 crore net and Rs 77.50 crore gross in India on its first day.
The film was screened across 25,200 shows in five languages.
The Hindi version dominated the collections, earning Rs 47.50 crore from 20,678 shows. The Kannada version collected Rs 7.25 crore from 1,197 shows, followed by Telugu with Rs 6 crore from 1,776 shows.
The Tamil version earned Rs 2.60 crore from 992 shows, while Malayalam contributed Rs 1.50 crore from 557 shows.
Despite Yash’s presence as Ravana, the Kannada version registered a relatively modest opening.
With Rs 64.85 crore net, Ramayana surpassed the opening-day collections of Pathaan (Rs 57 crore) and Animal (Rs 63 crore).
However, it fell short of Jawan (Rs 75 crore), Dhurandhar 2 (Rs 102 crore) and Adipurush (Rs 86.75 crore).
Interestingly, Adipurush, which faced severe criticism upon release, managed a bigger opening than Ramayana, despite the latter receiving comparatively positive reviews.
Made on a reported budget of Rs 1,600 crore, Ramayana: Part 1 is among the costliest Indian films ever produced.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.
Produced by Namit Malhotra in association with Yash, the film is expected to benefit from the upcoming Diwali holidays.
While Ramayana has registered a strong opening, its performance over the weekend will be crucial in determining its box office prospects.
