British Man gets infected with Ebola in DR Congo

The Deadly Bundibugyo Ebola Virus is finally now reaching the United Kingdom.

A British Man who has been infected with Ebola Virus 𝐢𝐧 the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was supposed to be repatriated back to London, taking the infections with him there.

The British national who contracted Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo will be flown back to the United Kingdom, becoming the first Briton confirmed infected in the current outbreak, which is caused by the rare but deadly Bundibugyo strain.

Reuters, citing an internal document seen by BBC News, reports that the new victim is a healthcare worker.

The timing of his flight from DRC to the UK however, remains unclear.

A UK government spokesperson said there are “robust procedures” in place for such cases, and the risk to the British public remains low.

The new Ebola outbreak was declared in May 2026 in eastern DR Congo.

It has now passed 10,000 confirmed cases and so far, killed over 5,000 people.

It is the second-deadliest Ebola outbreak on record, and the deadliest in DR Congo’s history, with a fatality rate of 48.6 percent as of late October.

Apart from DR Congo, other countries that have so far experienced infections include Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria and Brazil.

The Ebola victims who were confirmed in Nigeria were later repatriated to Switzerland for treatment.

The Displaced Pygmy families that are living at the Masiani site in Beni say poverty, overcrowding and a lack of basic supplies are hindering efforts to prevent Ebola infections in the precinct

“We know that regular handwashing and avoiding animals found dead can protect us against Ebola, but the equipment received is insufficient,” said site leader Mandu Apusoma.

Residents report shortages of soap, clean water, handwashing facilities and adequate housing, forcing families to live and sleep in cramped conditions. Authorities are being urged to provide hygiene supplies, medical support and improved shelter as the risk of disease persists.
