The Ministry of Environment prevented 21,987,703 cubic metres of wastewater from polluting public water sources during the first 10 months of this year, through the implementation of the “Cleanliness” pillar of the Environmental Circular Strategy.
The achievement marks an important step in protecting Cambodia’s ecosystems and public health, according to the ministry.
A ministry report showed that under the “Clean Water Surfaces” campaign, from January last year to October, 42,061,976 cubic metres of treated wastewater discharge was monitored and managed without causing environmental pollution.
The figures were recorded through automated wastewater quality monitoring systems installed at factories and enterprises.
To strengthen wastewater management, the ministry has stepped up law enforcement and encouraged factories and businesses to install online monitoring equipment capable of transmitting real-time discharge data directly to the ministry.
As of October, 75 companies and enterprises had voluntarily joined the initiative and installed monitoring systems.
The ministry expressed its appreciation to factory and enterprise owners for their cooperation in implementing the Environmental Circular Strategy, particularly its “Cleanliness” pillar.
It also called on all relevant stakeholders to continue complying strictly with environmental laws and regulations to improve environmental quality, protect public health and promote sustainable development in Cambodia.
