Authorities raided two locations in Bavet City, arresting 28 people, including 26 foreigners, for criminal activities using concealed rooms inside a hotel and a kindergarten.
The raid took place in Tapov village, Bavet commune, on Tuesday, led by Men Eng, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng province, in coordination with Pov Devy, the provincial court’s deputy prosecutor.
At the first location, a guesthouse and restaurant, authorities found 13 Chinese nationals and seized 11 passports, one desktop computer, 15 laptops and 17 mobile phones.
The scam centre was concealed in the back of the guesthouse, using kitchen cabinets and additional walls.
The authorities found that the bathroom walls had been modified to create secret passages for entering and exiting each room, and a metal ladder behind a fence used as a means of escape.
At the second location, located behind the Happy Kindergarten, authorities found 13 Chinese nationals and two Cambodians cleaners, seized two passports, 13 desktop computers, 20 mobile phones and a black Range Rover with a Phnom Penh licence plate.
Authorities said that the second location was arranged in three sections, with the front section serving as a kindergarten, the middle section as hotel rooms, and the back section with a secret entrance through a closet, as the scam centre.
The Anti-Technology Crime office have detained the suspects for further investigation and legal action.
