Prime Minister Hun Manet has reaffirmed the government’s continued attention to territorial issues, stressing that Cambodia has never forgotten the need to resolve them and will continue addressing them through various mechanisms.
He made the remarks while presiding over a ceremony to distribute rice seeds and food packages to flood-affected families at the Pursat Provincial Stadium today.
During his address, he also criticised certain individuals who continued to make irresponsible criticisms from afar without taking responsibility.
He referred to former opposition leader Sam Rainsy’s October 23 Government, which appointed officials to oversee border affairs, but whose appointees, he said, lacked the necessary expertise in border matters and relied on unclear maps or personal interpretations, potentially undermining national interests.
“The October 23 Government appointed officials responsible for border affairs, but they did not know how to read the border,” he said.
He explained that border protection and demarcation are highly sensitive and complex technical tasks requiring genuine expertise, modern technology and clear legal reference documents under international law, rather than assumptions or a lack of understanding.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment and efforts to safeguard Cambodia’s territorial integrity. He said the government was using internationally recognised maps, modern technologies and negotiations guided by respect for national sovereignty to ensure that Cambodia’s territory is properly protected and preserved for future generations.
On the importance of peace, Hun Manet stressed that the expression “Thank You, Peace” carries ever greater significance, particularly when the country faces challenges or natural disasters.
He called for national unity and solidarity to preserve and protect peace, describing it as the foundation for national development and for ensuring that assistance can be delivered to people in need promptly. AKP
