Eight Thai nationals deported over illegal stay, employment and drug use

Cambodia deported eight Thai nationals, including one woman, for violations involving illegal residence, unauthorised employment and drug use, the General Department of Immigration said.

The deportation took place on Wednesday, through the Cham Yeam International Border Checkpoint in Koh Kong province.

The operation was carried out by the Investigation and Procedures Department under instructions from Lt Gen Sok Veasna, Director-General of the General Department of Immigration, in line with recommendations from Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha.

The deportation forms part of the government’s strict enforcement of immigration laws and measures against foreign nationals involved in illegal activities.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has repeatedly stated that Cambodia will not allow criminals or people staying illegally to use the country as a base for online scams or other offences that threaten regional and international security.

He has called on authorities to continue cracking down on such activities and deporting offenders without exception to protect national security and Cambodia’s reputation.

Under the direction of Sokha, authorities have also continued efforts to combat technology-related crimes, investigate and dismantle criminal networks, and rescue people who have been deceived or trafficked into criminal operations so they can regain their freedom and return home safely.
