Mike Flood wins First Congressional District race, Backemeyer concedes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The race for Congressional District One has been called, and Mike Flood has won.

Democratic challenger Chris Backemeyer congratulated Flood on his win.

“I am so proud of the movement we built, proud of the campaign we ran, and proud that we focused on the issues that mattered to Nebraskans,” Backemeyer said. “Together, we motivated thousands of Nebraskans to make their voices heard, hold our government accountable, and send a message that the status quo isn’t good enough.”

He emphasized the honor of being the Democratic nominee.

“I know this is not the outcome we hoped for, but it has been the honor of my lifetime to be your nominee. I will carry your stories and experiences with me every day. Thank you for your support, and I wish Congressman Flood success in guiding Nebraska through the challenges facing our state and our country.”
