Al-Ameen Warns Against Canceling the School Year and Accuses Authorities of Negligence in Education and Health

Libya – Presidential candidate Fadhel Al-Ameen has criticized proposals to cancel the school year in Libya rather than address the root causes of the crisis. He warned that the country’s future is at risk due to what he called neglect of education and healthcare.

In a post on Facebook, Al-Ameen questioned whether Libyans would allow their children and grandchildren to lose a full academic year, and whether the situation in Libya had truly reached such a level of disregard and carelessness.

He stressed that education and healthcare are the foundations of building responsible, active citizens. He described neglecting these sectors as an “unforgivable crime and a grave betrayal of the country and its people.”

Al-Ameen argued that Libya does not suffer from a lack of funds as much as it does from the absence of responsible leadership and competent administration. He said that the teachers’ strike and protests by healthcare workers reveal the failure of the authorities to fulfill their most basic duties, despite having both resources and decision-making power.

He pointed to the disruption of education, the accumulation of unpaid wages, and the threat to healthcare services. He accused officials of clinging to power and shirking responsibility, affirming that division and empty promises do not justify this negligence.

He called for accountability for those who control public funds and deprive citizens of their rights and essential services. He concluded by saying that power is not a prize, Libya is not a hostage for officials to remain in office, and anyone unable to lead or govern should step down.
