Everett house fire kills one, injures another

EVERETT — One man died and a woman was injured during a Monday morning fire at an Everett home.

On Monday morning, Everett firefighters responded to a reports of a residential structure fire in the 7300 block of McDougall Avenue in central Everett after multiple 911 callers said smoke and flames were coming from the home, according to a press release. Firefighters were initially told someone was still inside the residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an active fire on the lower level of a split-level home, the release said.

Challenging fire conditions complicated the search and firefighting operations, the release said. First responders found a man believed to be in his late 30s deceased inside the home.

South County Fire paramedics transported a woman in her early 60s to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett after she suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

In approximately 20 minutes, firefighters brought the fire under control, the release said.

Social workers with the city of Everett’s CARE team met with family members to offer support, assistance and resources, the release said. The team is also communicating with the American Red Cross to coordinate any additional assistance.

The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official identification of the deceased, as well as the cause and manner of death.

The Everett Police Department is conducting a death investigation, per standard procedure following a fatal fire, the release said.
