Jimmie Women’s Volleyball Loses, But Holds 8th Spot In NSIC

JAMESTOWN – Even after a loss to a nationally-ranked team, Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Volleyball still has its chance to make the NSIC tournament.

19th-ranked Minnesota Duluth came back after dropping the first set for a four-set win Friday over the Jimmies 25-27, 25-18, 27-25, 25-21 at Harold Newman Arena.

Jamestown (16-9, 9-8 NSIC) was in eighth place in the conference standings through Friday, one match win behind seventh-place Augustana and one ahead of Minnesota State and Bemidji State, who were tied for ninth.  The top eight teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the NSIC Women’s Volleyball Championship.  Three regular season matches remain.

Paige Decker had 16 kills for Minnesota Duluth (19-6, 12-5) with five block assists.  Xada Johnson had 12 kills and two block assists.  The Bulldogs’ block game was dominant, totaling 17 and a half blocks.  Elyse Carrels had 11 block assists and Grace Mueller had nine.

Gracie Adamson had a career-high 22 kills for the Jimmies, along with an ace, three block assists and seven digs.  Charlotte Lempka had 15 kills and hit .290.

Jamestown actually had more kills than UMD, 59-52, but all the blocks for the visitors helped make the difference.

The Jimmies will have their final home match of the regular season and a very crucial match against Bemidji State on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Harold Newman Arena.
