ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Heavy rain could raise rivers to minor flood stage in parts of western New Mexico and near the Four Corners as wetter weather moves in Sunday.
Most of New Mexico started Friday evening dry, but showers and storms were expected to move east out of Arizona overnight. Rain chances could increase closer to midnight in Albuquerque.
Most of Saturday may stay dry during the daytime, with a few showers in spots. Clouds may also break up in some areas during the day.
The heavier rain is more likely Sunday and Sunday night. A flood watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday morning for much of western New Mexico, southwest Colorado and nearby areas.
Some heavy rain is possible in spots Sunday, especially over the mountains and near the Four Corners. Rivers could rise and reach minor flood stage.
Wintry precipitation also looks increasingly likely in the mountains from Sunday night to Monday or Monday night. Mainly light snow is possible in the higher mountains of northern New Mexico.
Southern Colorado could see heavier mountain snow, where a winter storm watch is in effect for the San Juan Mountains.
Some showers could continue through Monday morning, but drier weather will return to most areas Monday. Winds will also get a little gusty Monday, with some parts of the state seeing gusts of 40 mph or more.
This weekend also marks the time change. Clocks fall back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday.
