EVERETT — An affordable housing developer held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a new apartment complex for older adults in Everett that is expected to open in 2028.

Housing Hope, a nonprofit that develops affordable housing across the Snohomish County region, expects to begin construction this fall on the apartment building that will hold 67 housing units. The units will be available to adults age 55 or older and will be available to households at a range of income levels, according to the nonprofit’s website.

The apartment building, known as Bayside Landing, will be built 2624 Rockefeller Avenue, the former site of the Everett United Church of Christ.

Members of the church previously told The Daily Herald in an interview that the congregation had always had a goal of building housing on the site since the 1950s, when the church’s building was rebuilt. The church sold the property to Housing Hope in July 2024 for a reduced price — about $1.78 million, according to Snohomish County property records.

“All of us at Housing Hope are so excited to begin this next chapter in affordable housing for our agency,” Housing Hope wrote in a blog post Wednesday. “Bayside Landing is another example of how we are tackling the housing and affordability crisis through a bold, dynamic approach to bring new models with new funding structures to the region.”

Construction on the project is expected to begin this fall.
