The Indian stock market staged a strong rebound on Monday, snapping a four-day losing streak as broad-based buying lifted benchmark indices. The BSE Sensex climbed approximately 483 points to close at 73,606, while the NSE Nifty advanced 153 points to finish above the 22,750 mark.
Markets Recover Sharply from Intraday Lows
Trading remained volatile throughout the session, with global uncertainties triggering a sharp decline in early trade. The Sensex dropped to an intraday low of 72,514 before staging a remarkable recovery in the afternoon.
The benchmark index rebounded by nearly 1,092 points from its session low, eventually closing near its highest level of the day. The recovery reflected renewed buying interest following last week’s market weakness.
Metal, Telecom and Pharma Stocks Lead Gains
Metal, telecommunications and healthcare stocks emerged as key drivers of Monday’s rally. Investors stepped in to buy select stocks after the sharp correction in the previous week, providing support to the broader market.
Market sentiment also received a boost from a reported 1.60% decline in crude oil prices. However, Brent crude remained elevated at around $114.80 per barrel, keeping global energy-market concerns in focus.
Top Gainers and Losers
Among the 30 Sensex constituents, Adani Ports, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Trent, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and ITC were among the leading gainers.
On the other hand, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, HCL Technologies and Power Grid ended in negative territory, with profit-booking weighing on their shares.
Market Outlook
Monday’s recovery offered some relief to investors after four consecutive sessions of losses. Buying across key sectors helped benchmark indices regain ground, although continued volatility and global economic uncertainties are likely to remain important factors influencing market direction in the near term.
