CAMP GRAFTON – Defenders assigned to the 891st Missile Security Forces Squadron participated in a three-day weapons training event in September at Camp Grafton, focusing on improving accuracy, positioning and fundamental weapons skills.

During the training, airmen practiced with several weapon systems, including the M18 pistol, M240 machine gun and M4 carbine. The event provided defenders an opportunity to refine their techniques and build proficiency with the weapons they use to support the security of two legs of the nuclear triad present at Minot Air Force Base.

“This training is a very valuable opportunity for the airmen to familiarize themselves more with the weapon systems we use at the base along with providing a chance to upkeep currencies on the weapon systems,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Adrian Suarez, 891st Missile Security Forces Squadron training noncommissioned officer in charge.

The training also included nighttime weapons firing on the first night, allowing airmen to practice engaging targets in low-light conditions and develop confidence operating in different environments.

Additionally, defenders participated in an Army combat pistol qualification course, where airmen will shoot the M17 at several targets in three positions; standing, kneeling and while walking toward the targets at an incremental pace. The airmen had the opportunity to earn the Army Pistol Qualification Badge by meeting the course’s qualification requirements by shooting at least 27 of the 30 targets.

The three-day event reinforced the importance of weapons proficiency, accuracy and readiness, helping ensure defenders remain prepared to execute their mission.
