Nearly 15,000 youth volunteer for military service, Hun Manet says (VIDEO)

Prime Minister Hun Manet said that nearly 15,000 young men and women had voluntarily applied to fulfil their military service over the past 10-plus days.

Mr Hun Manet made the remarks on October 24 in Kampong Speu province during a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the deployment of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces personnel to United Nations peacekeeping missions.

He added that the implementation of the conscription law, which encompasses the modernisation of military structures, training and equipment, would begin with the first training course in early November.

He said:
By selecting November 9—a date that coincides with both the founding of the military and National Independence Day—the government marks the historic launch of this policy and the implementation of the military service law, aimed at contributing to the development of the nation’s armed forces.

We will continue the recruitment process every year based on the actual needs of the armed forces. In this regard, I would like to commend and encourage our youth. Nearly 15,000 individuals have submitted applications over the past 13 days. The Ministry of National Defense will determine the specific recruitment needs for this year and subsequent years to facilitate training.
