EVERETT — Starting Friday, the city of Mill Creek will close a lane on a bridge on 164th Street SE for emergency repairs to bridge columns, the city announced on Wednesday.
According to a city press release, engineers recently evaluated the bridge, which crosses over North Creek, and found that one of its seven support columns on the south side of the street was in poor condition. The repairs will provide “critical reinforcement to ensure the continued safety, stability, and reliability of this major transportation corridor,” the city wrote in the press release.
Eastbound traffic on 164th Street SE will shift, the city wrote, and delays are expected while the construction work is in progress. The lane will remain closed through mid-December, according to the city.
“The safety of our community is our top priority,” wrote Keegan Pocinwong, the city’s interim public works director, in the press release. “These repairs are essential to maintaining safe travel through one of Mill Creek’s most important corridors. We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation during this necessary project.”
Mill Creek also plans to conduct “a comprehensive study” looking into long-term solutions for other improvements and to address higher traffic volumes, according to a city website.
The 28-foot-long bridge was originally constructed in 1967 and was later widened in 1989.
