MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday warned the public against another fake social media post claiming that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) would push through in December.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the poll body debunked a post by Gallaza Sharly Paradise claiming that the elections would be held in December and the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) would begin on Monday, Oct. 26.

“There will be no Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this year under the current law, and the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) scheduled for Oct. 26, 2026, will not take place,” the Comelec said.

The poll body had also earlier flagged a similar post by Katribu News Online, which also claimed that the BSKE would take place in December.

President Marcos signed Republic Act No. 12326 into law on Sept. 24, extending the terms of barangay and youth officials from three years to five years. As a result, the next BSKE was moved from November 2026 to November 2028.

Last Sept. 27, veteran election lawyer Romulo Macalintal filed a petition for certiorari and prohibition before the Supreme Court, challenging the constitutionality of the law.

He argued that postponing the BSKE would unjustifiably prolong the terms of incumbent barangay and SK officials.

The Comelec, however, said Republic Act No. 12326 remains in effect because the Supreme Court has yet to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO).
