With the festive season expected to draw large crowds to the city’s markets, the district administration has stepped up preparations to ensure smooth traffic movement, effective crowd management and public safety.
On the directions of District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) K.K. Mishra in his office. The meeting was attended by officials from the police, district administration and Municipal Corporation, along with representatives of local traders’ associations.
The discussions focused on maintaining orderly traffic movement in major commercial areas, particularly Paltan Bazaar and other busy markets, controlling encroachments and ensuring safe and convenient access for shoppers, traders and the general public.
Vehicle Entry Restricted in Paltan Bazaar
As part of the traffic management measures, vehicle entry into Paltan Bazaar will remain prohibited from 11 AM to 7 PM. Traders have been requested to complete the loading and unloading of goods before 11 AM or after 7 PM.
The restriction aims to reduce traffic congestion during peak shopping hours and ensure safe and convenient movement for pedestrians. Mishra directed the concerned authorities to ensure strict compliance with the designated timings.
He emphasized that adequate space must remain available for pedestrians and emergency movement, particularly as footfall increases during the festive period. All concerned departments have been instructed to coordinate closely and implement the prescribed arrangements effectively.
Anti-Encroachment Drive in Busy Markets
The district administration and police will launch a drive against encroachments in Paltan Bazaar and other major commercial areas. Action will be taken, in accordance with the rules, against obstructions that disrupt the movement of pedestrians and vehicles, including unauthorized occupation of public spaces by street vendors and carts.
Officials from the police, Municipal Corporation and other departments have been directed to maintain regular surveillance and undertake joint enforcement drives wherever necessary to keep market areas accessible and organized.
Traders Urged to Cooperate
Appealing to traders to support the administration’s efforts, Mishra urged them not to place unnecessary goods outside their establishments and to keep designated passageways clear.
He stressed that cooperation between the administration and the business community would be essential to maintaining an orderly environment and ensuring the safety and convenience of shoppers throughout the festive season.
The meeting also emphasized that all necessary measures related to traffic regulation, pedestrian movement and public safety must be implemented effectively to prevent inconvenience to visitors.
Officials and Trade Representatives Attend Meeting
Those present at the meeting included Harshita Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Headquarters); Rakesh Tiwari, City Magistrate; Apurva Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar); and Jagdish Pant, Circle Officer (Traffic).
Pankaj Mayson, a member of the National Traders Welfare Board, Uttarakhand, and president of the Doon Valley Metropolitan Industries and Trade Board, along with vice-president Harish Virmani, also attended the meeting, along with police personnel and officials from the concerned departments.
The administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer, smoother and better-managed markets during the festive season through coordinated enforcement and public cooperation.
