Mine explosion kills three and injures five workers in Turkey

AKIPRESS.COM – A methane explosion has occurred at a private coal mine in Turkey, NTV reports.

The incident took place in Gelik. Eight people were in the tunnel at the moment of the explosion. Two workers died, and five others were taken to the hospital with injuries. Later, another miner who had remained trapped under the debris, was confirmed dead, EuroNews reported.

“One of the five injured is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment. Our teams in the region are on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation,” Turkish Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu said.

Two of the workers have been placed on ventilators. It is planned to transport the patients to Ankara.
