CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) — Imagine doing something you loved for 50 years!
One special Cabell County teacher is being celebrated as the school year winds down for doing just that.
Genie Webb has been working at Davis Creek Elementary School for the last five years, substituting there exclusively since 2020.
She was a substitute because her son says she officially “retired” back in 2015 from working as a second-grade teacher at Davis Creek Elementary School. She loved the children and the community so much that she went back to work right after retirement.
“I enjoy being with the students, and learning from them and they learn from me, and it’s just unbelievable what you experience every day with the students,” Webb said. “And, you know, it’s happy and it’s sad, and it’s hard and it’s easy, but I love it. I love it so much that I continued doing it after I retired.”
In her decades with the Cabell County Schools, she taught at Johnston Elementary on the west end of Huntington after that until it closed, then she went on to teach at Central City.
Those who love her say her remarkable teaching career will be felt for generations to come.
Her son says she has been a shining example of dedication, kindness, and compassion.
