Benghazi – The Bee Development and Improvement Authority held a training course on the basics of beekeeping in Benghazi, with ten trainees participating. The course aims to introduce participants to the fundamentals of beekeeping, different members of the bee colony, and the tools used in the field.
The course began on Sunday, October 18, at the authority’s headquarters behind the psychiatric hospital in Benghazi. Activities will continue until Tuesday, according to the course schedule.
Trainer and course supervisor Abdulsalam Al-Obaidi told the Libyan News Agency that the program covers the life cycle of bees, the roles of colony members within the hive, and essential tools such as hives, protective clothing, wax, and other necessary equipment.
Al-Obaidi stressed the importance of beekeepers understanding the bee life cycle and safe handling practices. He warned that lack of knowledge can lead to mistakes when working with hives. Bee stings can cause serious allergic reactions in some people.
He advised taking proper precautions and receiving adequate training before directly handling bees. He emphasized the need to determine if a person is allergic to stings before beekeeping activities.
