Libya and Algeria Partner on Zawia Desalination Plant Maintenance

The Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Water Resources said yesterday that it is working to strengthen technical cooperation with Algeria in the field of seawater desalination, leveraging Algerian expertise in the maintenance and development of operational and control systems.

This initiative, it added, aims to enhance the technical efficiency of the Zawia Seawater Desalination Plant.

In this context, an Algerian expert has arrived at the plant to carry out urgent maintenance, assess the technical condition of the control and operational systems, and identify requirements for their modernization and development.

The Ministry said this effort is part of the ongoing cooperation between the two countries, following a visit to Algeria last July by the Minister of Water Resources, Hosni Oweidan. The visit focused on ways to exchange expertise and experience in seawater desalination and water resource management, with the goal of improving the plant’s performance and ensuring a more stable water supply for the areas it serves.
