Morigaon: Advocate Ratul Bora has said he will approach the Supreme Court by November 5, challenging the Gauhati High Court’s orders granting bail to two accused in the case related to the death of Assam icon Zubeen Garg.
Bora, who filed the first police complaint following singer Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore, has also questioned the Assam government’s handling of the legal proceedings, alleging that shortcomings in the chargesheet filed by the state police have enabled accused persons to secure bail.
Speaking at a press conference, Bora said he would challenge the bail orders and seek the Supreme Court’s intervention to prevent the remaining accused from securing bail.
The Gauhati High Court recently granted bail to singer and band member Amritprava Mahanta and suspended Assam Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandipon Garg, a cousin of the deceased singer.

“Due to loopholes in the police chargesheet, the accused in the case have been obtaining bail one after another. The government’s role in the legal proceedings has been unsatisfactory,” he said.
Besides the two, five others have been arrested in connection with the case. They are North East India Festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya.
The two security officers had secured bail in a separate disproportionate assets case in September but remain in custody in connection with Garg’s death.
Garg died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19, 2025, while he was in the country to attend the fourth edition of the North East India Festival.
Following his death, more than 60 first information reports were registered across Assam. A Special Investigation Team of the Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department subsequently investigated the case and filed a chargesheet before a local court in December 2025, naming seven accused. Four of them face murder charges.
The case is being heard by a special fast-track sessions court.
Assam authorities have maintained that the findings of the Singapore investigation would not affect the proceedings in the state.
