TDP releases second list of candidates for local body polls

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced its second list of candidates for the urban local body elections, with a mayoral candidate for Machilipatnam and chairperson candidates for 21 municipalities.

The TDP has fielded 18 women candidates for the elections, which constitutes nearly 82 percent of the total candidates. The party’s list also includes six backward class (BC) candidates, five scheduled caste (SC) candidates and five minority candidates. Five Muslim candidates are in the fray from Machilipatnam, Naidupeta, Nandikotkur, Kadiri and Akividu constituencies, of which four are women.

Six candidates are in the age group of 30 years and below, and the average age of the candidates is 45.9 years. Eighteen candidates are graduates or post-graduates, as per the party’s release. However, these figures need to be cross-checked with the official list.

Across both lists, the TDP has announced 58 candidates, including 37 women, or about 64 per cent. The party says 38 candidates belong to BC, SC, Scheduled Tribes (ST) or minority communities. Its breakdown is 22 BC, 20 Open Category, eight SC, seven minority and one ST candidate.

Eighteen candidates are under 40, including 10 aged 35 or younger. The party said 34 candidates are graduates or hold higher qualifications. The selections aim to represent women, young people and different social groups. Candidate details, including education and community classifications, should be checked against the official list.
