Nainital District Administration Proposes Online Registration System for Kainchi Dham, Daily Visitor Cap of 25,000

To address the challenges of traffic congestion and disorder caused by the ever-increasing number of devotees visiting Kainchi Dham, a registration system is now being proposed. Plans are underway to facilitate this through the Uttarakhand Tourism Department’s website. The Nainital district administration has prepared a proposal and submitted it to the Tourism Department. Similar to the ‘Char Dham Yatra’ model, a dedicated registration window will be created for devotees planning to visit Kainchi Dham.

Considering the carrying capacity of the Kainchi Dham area and the volume of vehicular traffic on the Haldwani-Almora highway, it is proposed that 20,000 to 25,000 devotees be permitted to visit daily. Once the online registration system is implemented, the number of visitors will be capped within this limit.

Information on Accommodation and Parking Required

Once the daily limit is reached, the website will automatically stop accepting registrations and offer the option to select a different date. Furthermore, devotees will be required to provide details regarding their pre-arranged accommodation and parking. Although this is currently a proposal—subject to government approval—such a system would help manage the situation, preventing the kind of chaos witnessed when 45,000 to 50,000 people arrived daily between October 2nd and 4th.

Additionally, by requiring visitors to provide information about their accommodation and parking arrangements during registration, the impact on local traffic can be minimized. In the event of high registration numbers, vehicles can be parked in Haldwani, and visitors can be transported to the site via a shuttle service.

This will also prevent inconvenience to those who regularly travel through these mountain regions. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while speaking at a traders’ conference in Haldwani on October 9th, also mentioned the need for a registration system and a cap on the number of visitors to Kainchi Dham. Consequently, it is expected that this plan will be implemented soon.

Registration Checks at Barriers in Haldwani

The plan includes verifying the online registrations of visitors—whether from other regions or states—at the entry point in Haldwani. To facilitate this, the police will designate specific locations to set up checkpoints (barriers). Devotees will be permitted to visit only after their registration number is verified. Entry into the temple will be granted strictly in accordance with the number specified on the registration document.

Local residents will be granted entry upon verification of their ID.

The registration process to be implemented for visits to Kainchi Dham will not affect local residents. It has been indicated that they will be granted entry based on local identification documents, such as an Aadhaar card or a voter ID card.
