Mr Daniel Derzic, Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland to Myanmar, and colleagues from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) visited the Myitkyina Physical Rehabilitation Centre (MPRC), which operates under Myitkyina Peoples’s Hospital, under the Ministry of Health, in Myitkyina, Kachin State, according to a statement issued by the embassy.
At the centre, persons with disabilities receive prosthetic and orthotic devices and other assistive equipment, as well as rehabilitation services to help them regain mobility and independence. In 2026, 170 people benefited from rehabilitation services, 75 of whom received assistive devices.
Discussions with rehabilitation specialists, Ministry of Health staff and patients highlighted the importance of accessible, comprehensive care, including mental health and psychosocial support, in helping people recover and reintegrate into their communities.
Mr Derzic and the SDC delegation also visited the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Myitkyina.
As one of Switzerland’s key humanitarian partner organizations providing rehabilitation and protection support in Kachin State, the ICRC has been conducting humanitarian operations there since 2014, supporting conflict-affected populations and responding to humanitarian needs across the region. — Htun Htun/TH
