Made in Iraq: Buraq Al-Qimma expands local SHACMAN truck assembly

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi commercial vehicle company Buraq Al-Qimma is expanding its local assembly operations for Chinese manufacturer SHACMAN, producing trucks marketed under the “Made in Iraq” designation, with a reported annual production capacity of 1,500 vehicles.

According to Plant & Equipment, the Iraqi company has an industrial site in Iraq that manufactures over ten SHACMAN truck models, including heavy-duty trucks, dump trucks, concrete mixers, and specialized vehicles used in construction, transportation, and municipal services.

Buraq Al-Qimma describes itself as SHACMAN’s sole assembly agent in Iraq, offering vehicle assembly, sales, spare parts supply, and after-sales servicing.

Company footage shows specialists working on truck cabins and components inside an industrial facility that includes assembly stations and vehicle inspection sections.

The facility also includes Chinese bus maker Zhongtong, which reflects the company’s engagement in both truck and bus operations.

While Buraq Al-Qimma brands its vehicles as Made in Iraq, the percentage of locally manufactured components has not been published. Its declared capacity of 1,500 trucks per year likewise does not reflect confirmed production volumes.

The program focuses on efforts to grow Iraq’s localized automotive sector through partnerships with multinational manufacturers, resulting in chances for local employment, technical training, and industrial development.

The expansion comes as commercial vehicle demand remains strong in Iraq’s construction, infrastructure, and logistics sectors.
