‘Justice on the spot’: UP women constables give eve-teasers ‘sticking’ escort on 1-km walk to Kotwali | Prayagraj News

A woman sub-inspector, Kanchan Lata, lodged an FIR at Kotwali police station PRAYAGRAJ: In a stark display of what witnesses described as “justice on the spot”, sleuths of the anti-Romeo squad, including women constables, were spotted escorting two alleged eve-teasers with sticks during a 1km walk from Bhagwa Chungi to Kotwali in Pratapgarh district on Monday evening. The move, described by witnesses as a scene straight out of a high-octane action movie, saw the anti-Romeo squad personnel parade the alleged eve-teasers through one of the town’s busiest streets, where they had allegedly performed dangerous bike stunts and passed lewd remarks at women and girls. The arrested men were identified as Dakshapal (26) and Subhash Pal (27), residents of Raniganj and Mandhata, respectively. While Dakshapal worked as a cab driver in Mumbai, Subhash Pal drove a truck between Nagpur and Mumbai. Both were booked under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).A woman sub-inspector, Kanchan Lata, lodged an FIR at Kotwali police station, alleging that the two men were performing stunts on a motorcycle and passing lewd remarks at women on the street on Monday afternoon. As women passing by began moving away to avoid the men, locals complained to the police about the duo allegedly performing stunts on the town’s streets and engaging in eve-teasing. After ascertaining their identities with the help of CCTV footage, police nabbed the men on Monday evening and marched them by their collars to the spot where the incident had occurred. The personnel used sticks to discipline them in public, while onlookers applauded the action.A video of the incident that went viral on social media showed police personnel repeatedly asking the alleged eve-teasers, “Will you harass more women?” The men were seen shouting and folding their hands in apology, saying, “We made a mistake. It will not happen again.”
