BJP accuses INDIA bloc, CJP of trying to destabilise nation at behest of foreign powers

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led INDIA bloc and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which it described as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) “proxy”. The BJP alleged that both groups were seeking to destabilise India at the behest of foreign powers, warning that such “sinister designs” to foment unrest would be met with a firm response.

“I warn you that the BJP and the patriotic people of the country will give you a fitting response. The attempts you are making today to create disturbance will be dealt with firmly by the Government of India. We will counter all such forces resolutely, whether they are operating from abroad or within the country,” said BJP president Nitin Nabin.

Stating that efforts were underway to create an extremely serious and dangerous situation in the country, BJP president Nitin Nabin said: “And who is doing this? These are two anarchist groups: one led by Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the INDIA bloc, and the other led by CJP, an ally of Arvind Kejriwal. I want to make it clear to both these groups that the people of India are watching you closely.”

“This anarchic competition you are engaged in, to see who can create the greatest instability in this country, will not succeed. The people have rejected both Rahul Gandhi’s INDIA bloc, and Arvind Kejriwal and his CJP. Instead of learning from the people’s verdict, you are trying to destabilise the country. You are doing this not only to pursue your political objectives but also at the behest of foreign powers,” said Mr. Nabin.

Questioning the language used against those holding the country’s highest offices, he said the people — who were rooted in India’s culture and were committed to the Indian Constitution — would never accept such conduct. “You are pursuing your sellout politics on the strength of foreign powers and conspiring with them. However, your sinister intentions will never be fulfilled,” he said.

“Challenging democracy through lies in the name of the Constitution is an insult to the people’s mandate. The person whom the people of this country have chosen is leading the country. Your conduct reflects your frustration because of repeated electoral defeats,” said Mr. Nabin.

He also said the two groups were troubled by India’s growth despite the ongoing global crisis and were unable to bear the way the country was becoming self-reliant under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Over the past 12 years, under Prime Minister Modi, we have worked to take this country out of an atmosphere of fear, through attempts to root out terrorism and free the country from Naxalism. Still, some people with an Urban Naxal mindset have been trying to destabilise the country,” he said, adding that the BJP and the government would work towards realising a “Viksit Bharat” in a peaceful atmosphere.

‘Spreading false narrative’

At a press conference, former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the Opposition wanted to spread a false narrative that Indian democracy was unsafe, particularly when the country was making rapid economic progress under Mr. Modi. Describing the CJP as an AAP proxy, he accused the Congress and its allies of weaponising street protests.

He said the events of the past three to four days had demonstrated that Indian democracy had defeated attempts to foment anarchy, establishing that the country would be governed through Parliament and not the streets. Pointing to the BJP’s electoral victories, the latest being in the bypoll results on Friday, he argued that the Opposition had been rejected by voters and it was “weaponising street protests” to compensate for its electoral defeats.

“These defeated and frustrated people have been troubling the people of Delhi for the past three or four days,” Mr. Prasad said.

The BJP leader said the Opposition earlier questioned Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and was now opposing the legally mandated special intensive revision (SIR) despite its role in removing deceased, duplicate and ineligible voters. He also accused Mr. Gandhi of disrespecting constitutional institutions and making false claims about his meeting with the President on Friday.

Countering the charge of “undeclared Emergency”, he said: “The entire history of the Emergency, the history of your grandmother (former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi), is known to this country. When your grandmother’s election was set aside, she imposed the Emergency to save her position because she did not obtain a stay from the Supreme Court.”

“Judges were superseded and censorship was imposed. The electricity was cut off at all the newspaper offices located along Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg (New Delhi). Political parties were banned… the fingernails of RSS volunteers were pulled out. So please do not lecture us about the Emergency, we fought against it,” he said.
