Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi arrived in Chennai on Saturday to participate in ‘Voice of Students – Chhatron ki Goonj’, a student interaction event that was held at Island Grounds near Marina Beach.

After his arrival, Mr. Gandhi met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay at his residence on Casuarina Drive, Neelankarai. The Chief Minister hosted Mr. Gandhi for lunch, following which the two leaders visited a café in Palavakkam.

The Voice of Students event was held to provide a platform for young people to voice their concerns on education, employment, and issues affecting their future.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore, in a post on X, said Mr. Gandhi would hear students’ concerns, particularly over unemployment, educational opportunities and what he described as an unfair examination system. He also criticised the BJP and the RSS over their education policies.

Mr. Gandhi’s visit to Chennai comes amid protests by Opposition parties against the SIR exercise.

Demonstrations were held in Delhi on Saturday demanding accountability from the Election Commission over alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision process. The issue has also prompted protests in Chennai.
