Steven Lawrence Librot

Longmeadow, MA – Steven Lawrence Librot passed away on September 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 28, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York to Maxwell and Frances Librot, he lived 83 remarkable years, living with purpose, discipline, and with a deep commitment to lifting others higher. The impact of his life will continue to echo through the many people he taught, counseled, supported, and cherished.

Steve was a man of extraordinary dedication to learning and service. He earned many degrees in a distinguished career as a teacher in Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, Environmental Science, Special Education, and as a Behavioral Specialist. For 50 years, he stood before classrooms with patience, wisdom, and resolve, shaping minds and hearts. He believed that education was not simply about information, but about transformation, about believing in each student’s capacity and self-worth. His students remember not only what he taught, but how he made them feel seen, capable, and worthy of success.

At age 63, Steve stepped into the career he had long dreamed of pursuing – becoming a clinical mental health counselor. He practiced in that calling until the months before his death, proving that purpose does not expire with age and that it is never too late to answer a deeper calling. Through his private practice, Northern Lights Counseling, he specialized in Trauma, PTSD, LGBTQ+, ADHD, and many other areas, always working to provide individualized care with the most current therapeutic modalities. He continued taking classes through July and kept up to date with the latest therapies available, demonstrating the same hunger for growth and excellence that had defined his life for decades. His students and clients often said, “Steve saved lives,” and those words stand as a powerful testament to the healing presence he brought into the world.

Steve’s greatest pride was always his family. He shared 50 loving years of marriage with his wife, Irit Librot, and together they built a life grounded in commitment, resilience, and love. He was a proud and devoted father to Adam Librot, Bella Cullen, Jesse Librot (Nathalie), Hannah Rodriguez (Alex), and David Librot. He was the immensely proud grandfather of Aubrey, Cammy, Damien, Caeleb, and Kurtis; dear brother of Michael Librot (Susie); brother-in-law to Alona Rotkovitch (Paul), and proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews and their children. To his family, Steve was a steady force, a source of wisdom, and a reminder that love is shown not only in words, but in presence, sacrifice, and most importantly, action.

Steve found meaning in the simple and sacred work of providing. In his years in Norwich, Vermont, he embraced organic gardening, beekeeping and animal husbandry, creating an abundance of farm produce for his family. He understood the dignity of labor, the beauty of self-reliance, and the joy of giving others what they need to thrive. His generosity extended far beyond material support, reaching into the emotional and spiritual lives of those around him – encouragement when others were discouraged, strength and compassion when others felt unseen. He showed that a meaningful life is not measured by status or recognition, but by the lives touched along the way.

His legacy is one of perseverance, compassion, and impact. He was a teacher in the fullest sense of the word, not only in classrooms and counseling sessions, but in the example he set every day. He taught that it is noble to keep learning, courageous to keep serving, and powerful to keep loving through every season of life. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” By that measure, Steve succeeded beyond measure.

He is remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who knew him. His life was a gift, his work was a calling, and his memory will remain a source of strength for his family, friends, students, clients, and all whose lives were made better by his presence. Steve Librot lived with purpose, gave with abundance, and loved without reservation. His story is not only one of a life completed, but of a legacy that continues to inspire.

A memorial gathering on 10/24/26 will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Norwich, VT, between 12 and 2pm, followed by a small, private burial. In honor of Steve’s lifetime of selfless giving, memorial donations may be made to any meaningful charity.
