NNN/Bluedot poll: public prefers Crawford but PNP favours Golding leadership

If it were up to the Jamaican public, Damion Crawford, not Mark Golding, would lead the People’s National Party, PNP.

But among the party’s own supporters, Golding still has the edge.

Asked who would make the better leader of the People’s National Party, Jamaicans pick Damion Crawford by a wide margin.

In the latest Nationwide/Bluedot poll, 37 per cent of the 1,568 registered voters surveyed chose Crawford. Twenty per cent chose party president Mark Golding.

Nineteen per cent said neither, and 22 per cent were unsure.

Crawford’s appeal cuts across party lines. He is preferred by 38 per cent of Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, affiliates, 38 per cent of voters with no party attachment, and 36 per cent of PNP supporters.

But inside his own party, Golding holds the edge. Forty-three per cent of PNP supporters prefer him. It is the only group in which he leads clearly.

There is also an age divide.

Forty-three per cent of Jamaicans aged 18 to 24 prefer Crawford, compared with 15 per cent for Golding. The gap narrows with age. Among those 65 and older, Golding is narrowly ahead, 31 per cent to 29 per cent.

Bluedot also looked at voters who would choose Golding over Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness in a head-to-head. Even among them, more prefer Crawford as PNP leader, 37 per cent to 33 per cent.

The findings come amid talk of a challenge to Golding’s leadership.

Nationwide News reported in July, citing party sources, that Crawford is an expected challenger when the PNP’s presidential election comes due in September 2027.

Crawford has not publicly signalled a bid, and Golding has brushed off any challenge.

In the end, that decision rests not with the wider public, but with the PNP’s delegates.

The latest poll was conducted between September 5 and 28, 2026, and has a margin of error of +\- 2.5 per cent.
