A 3-month-old divorce turned violent on Wednesday, when a man slashed his former wife multiple times before dying by suicide at a pagoda in Phnom Penh’s Kambol district.
The incident occurred at around 8.30pm inside Tang Ronam Pagoda, located in Sangkat Prateah Lang.
According to the victim’s family, the couple had divorced three months prior. The attack took place after the woman refused the man’s persistent requests to reconcile, sparking a dispute that led to the violent assault.
Family members rushed the seriously injured woman to hospital for emergency medical treatment. Meanwhile, the assailant fled into the pagoda grounds, where he took his own life.
Authorities and forensic specialists from the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Inspectorate investigated the scene. Following the investigation, the man’s body was handed over to his family for traditional funeral rites.
