Six men are accused of stealing 30 to 50 window panes from an apartment building, worth $500 each, according to arrest warrants.
Baton Rouge Police responded to 1251 N. Ardenwood Drive on the night of Oct. 1 in response to people reportedly stealing windowpanes from the property.
Police observed two pickup trucks with flatbed trailers carrying multiple windowpanes each, as well as multiple people walking through the apartment complex, collecting windowpanes and loading them onto the trailers.
Police conducted a traffic stop on the trucks and found about 30 to 50 windowpanes on the trailers, along with a refrigerator from the complex.
In interviews with police, multiple suspects said they were obtaining windowpanes from the property to break them down and scrap them for metal. They said the property’s management told them they could no longer get the windowpanes, but that a security guard told them to come back and retrieve them.
Security staff and property management denied the police’s claims that they were given permission to return to the property. They also said they were not permitted to take any old or new property from the complex and that each windowpane costs about $500, totaling at least $15,000.
Arrest warrants were filed for Darren Cooks, 28; Bryan Walker, 36; Dante Scott, 21; Ke’Vontae Yates, 25; Steven White, 58; and Derrick Robinson, 40.
