Two of Michigan’s top programs collide Friday night when the undefeated Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks (6-0, 3-0 CHSL) travel to face Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (5-1, 4-0) at 7 p.m. in a Catholic High School League-Central clash.
The Shamrocks enter riding a 20-game winning streak dating back nearly two years, but are expected to be without starting senior quarterback Duke Banta, who is out indefinitely with an arm injury suffered in last week’s 31-12 victory over Toledo Central Catholic. Fellow senior Peyton Sofran steps into the starting role for head coach Justin Cessante’s squad, which has not lost since falling 17-14 to Detroit Cass Tech in an MHSAA state semifinal on November 23, 2024.

Detroit Catholic Central’s defense has been suffocating through six games, allowing just 43 total points and recording two shutouts. The Shamrocks will lean on that stingy unit and senior standout Gideon Gash, a Texas Tech commit who caught touchdown passes from both Banta and Sofran against Toledo Central Catholic.
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s enters on fire, having won four consecutive games while scoring at least 42 points in each of those victories, including last week’s 42-6 rout of Warren De La Salle. Head coach Jermaine Gonzales’ Eaglets are powered by a dynamic trio of senior playmakers: quarterback Jabin Gonzales, wide receiver Lorenzo Barber (Ferris State commit) and wideout Chad Willis.
The Shamrocks won last season’s meeting 29-14 in mid-September in Novi.
Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on Friday, October 9 with a live TV broadcast on NFHS Network.
