Coach of Jamaica’s senior women’s football team, Hubert Busby, says all but one of the 23 players selected for the Reggae Girlz’ two international friendlies against Mexico are now in camp.
Jamaica will face Mexico on Friday and again on October 13, as the team continues preparations for the CONCACAF Women’s Championship quarter-final against Costa Rica in November.
Busby says goalkeeper Liya Brooks is the only player yet to report to camp, with her arrival expected on Friday.
The coach says the primary objective of the two matches is to ensure the Reggae Girlz are adequately prepared for their quarter-final assignment against Costa Rica.
Busby says that objective influenced the decision to select an experienced 23-member squad for the Mexico fixtures.
He adds that the matches will also provide the technical staff with valuable logistical information ahead of the CONCACAF Women’s Championship, particularly in the event that Jamaica advances to the semi-finals.
According to Busby, the Mexico matches will therefore serve a dual purpose, fine-tuning the team on the field while allowing the technical staff to assess and plan for the logistical demands of the tournament’s later stages.
