CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe says all 54 CAF Member Associations will support FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election.
Motsepe reaffirmed CAF’s position during the CAF Strategy Conference in Sal, Cabo Verde, where he highlighted the continent’s collective support for Infantino’s candidacy.
Meanwhile, Infantino has praised progress in Africa towards enabling national teams to play their home matches in their own countries.
He said around 26 African nations were unable to host international matches at home about two years ago.
Infantino said the situation has improved, with 40 of CAF’s 54 Member Associations now able to host their home matches domestically.
However, 14 African nations still face challenges in hosting international matches at home.
Infantino said FIFA aims to ensure that all 54 African countries have the facilities and conditions needed to host international fixtures on home soil.
He added that FIFA will continue working with CAF and its Member Associations to address the remaining challenges.
The three-day CAF Strategy Conference has brought together presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, zonal union presidents, CAF Executive Committee members, national team coaches, technical leaders and international football experts.
The conference is focusing on the growth and development of African football, including lessons from the continent’s record participation at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2030.
The discussions are also covering key areas of African football development, including infrastructure, national teams, competitions, technical development and strengthening the game across the continent.
