Nazira: An awareness programme and nutrition exhibition was organised at Bamunpukhuri Tea Estate Model School in Sivasagar to mark Rashtriya Poshan Maah, with a focus on balanced diets and healthy food practices.
The programme, held under the theme “Hamari Anganwadi, Hamari Jimmedari”, was organised by Bal Raksha Bharat in collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project, Nazira. It brought together school students, teachers, ICDS officials, Anganwadi workers and women from the tea garden community.
Hari Kanta Gogoi, principal of Bamunpukhuri Tea Estate Model School, stressed the importance of nutrition in children’s overall development. He said symptoms such as nausea, headaches and weakness appeared to have become increasingly common among students and identified inadequate nutrition as one possible contributing factor.
Dr Roshmi Rekha Saikia, Subject Matter Specialist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sivasagar, said nutritional requirements vary across different stages of life, with particular needs among pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, children and adolescents. She stressed the importance of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals in a healthy diet.

Officials also encouraged families to focus on dietary diversity and make greater use of locally available and affordable foods.
Women from the tea garden community and Anganwadi workers displayed nutritious dishes including khichdi, payesh and pithas as part of the exhibition.
