The Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development ordered the temporary halt of the construction of the fourth bridge, because the safety measures for the workers are not guaranteed. Labor Minister Jackeline Muñoz pictured below, announced the decision after arriving at the construction site to meet with representatives of the workers and the company, following an accident on the night of Thursday, September 24, involving a Panamanian worker. Muñoz explained that the decision is in response to a series of incidents that occurred at the construction site.

“Precisely because there was an accident last night. Thank God it wasn’t fatal. This is a project that has already had three fatalities and a series of repeated accidents.” says Jackeline Muñoz, Minister of Labor and Workforce Development.

The head of Mitradel indicated that the work stoppage will continue until the company takes the necessary measures to correct the identified conditions. “The construction will not begin until the situation is resolved.” the minister declared: She added that ministry inspectors were deployed to various work sites and questioned some practices observed during the inspections.
