The National Convention of Peruvian Agro (Conveagro) described President Keiko Fujimori’s trip to the United States as positive for investment.
There, the Head of State took part in the United Nations General Assembly and held meetings with international investors.
“The presence of Peru, through our President, at a World Assembly is positive. It is definitely something that should be promoted and with which we should agree,” Conveagro Manager Luis Cruz told Andina News Agency.
“Investment is definitely necessary for the country, regardless of where it comes from. Peru requires private investment to advance its development,” he added.
The Conveagro representative also considered the meetings held by Peru’s official delegation with U.S. officials important.
“The issue of tariffs is important. We have to be clear: our obligation is to defend domestic production, considering that there is a free trade agreement with the United States,” Cruz said.
“That free trade agreement has a zero-tariff regime, which benefits Peruvian agricultural exports and generates significant foreign exchange revenue for the country. It is understood that the official delegation must have addressed that issue,” he added.
